Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt has released a historical documentary video that dives into the early years of Turku Science Park in the 1980s and 1990s. Watch the documentary at the bottom of the page.
How did the construction of Turku Science Park begin and who were the people behind the project? These questions are explored in the new mini-documentary by Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt and Turku Science Park: Suo, kuokka ja kolme Jussia – Turun Tiedepuiston lyhyt historia.
For the documentary, we interviewed the people behind the development of Turku Science Park: Juhani Lundén, founder of the construction company Lundén; Juhani Leppä, who served in roles including KOP and as Mayor of Turku; advertising agency entrepreneur Jussi Kaisti; and the architects responsible for the design of the Science Park, Benito Casagrande and Kari Haroma.
The documentary is a tribute to open-minded entrepreneurship, where chance and luck also play a role – and of which the true winner is Turku.
The stories of those interviewed in the documentary intertwine to paint a picture of the enthusiasm with which they wanted to create an area in Turku where the university world and the business sector meet. The documentary is a tribute to open-minded entrepreneurship, where chance and luck also play a role – and of which the true winner is Turku.
On Tuesday, May 23, a launch event for the documentary was held, attended by around a hundred people interested in the history of the Science Park, many of whom have also played their own roles in the area's development history. The event began with light snacks and a toast in honor of those interviewed in the documentary. This was followed by a short panel discussion, where Turku's Director of Urban Planning Timo Hintsanen and former CEO of Turku Science Park Tapani ”Sassu” Saarinen shared their views on the development of Turku Science Park, moderated by Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt's CEO Mikko Lehtinen. Finally, the documentary itself was screened, receiving applause from the audience.
The documentary was produced by video agency Mama Creative.
