History

Turku Science Park began with the construction of DataCity in 1988. The underlying idea was to bring Turku's high-tech companies and academic research under the same roof. The project began with property developer Juhani Lunden's idea for an "IT building," which was named DataCity.

The future of Turku Science Park

The development of the Turku campus and Turku Science Park is one of the city's key projects set by the Turku City Council. The expansion of Turku Science Park towards the Itäharju industrial area will create an even more significant urban center for expertise, innovation, mobility, and housing in the region.

In the Science Park, art is everywhere

The development of Turku Science Park into an art park began in 1995, when Stiftelsen för Åbo Akademi and the University of Turku Foundation donated Carl-Gustaf Lilius's The World Dance sculpture to the universities. Since then, more artworks have been acquired for the Science Park through various projects and competitions.
