The latest newcomer to Turku Science Park's lunch options is the renowned Fizza pizza vending machine. Conveniently located between ElectroCity and BioCity, the pizza vending machine gathered people in the Science Park to enjoy oven-fresh pizza at lunchtime. We explored Fizza at lunchtime together with Mika Vilkki, the founder of Fizza in the Turku region. What kind of addition does Fizza bring to the Science Park?
– The Science Park is an ideal location for Fizza because the machine is situated at a busy traffic intersection. The spot attracts customers especially at lunchtime and late in the evening, serving the area's residents, students, and those working moving night shifts, Mika Vilkki says.
You can get a freshly baked pizza directly from the oven in three minutes. You can also take a pizza home to bake in as little as half a minute.
The idea of a pizza vending machine, which originated in France, was brought to Finland in 2021. The first Fizza machines appeared in the Turku region in the summer of 2023 in Kaarina.
– The Fizza machine in Kaarina is conveniently located along the cottage traffic heading towards the archipelago, which was reflected in pizza sales, especially during the summer. The Science Park Fizza is the fourth machine in the Turku region. In addition to these, Fizza is also located in Raisio and Vähäheikkilä, Vilkki says.
Fizza also has expansion plans in the Turku region, and the goal is to have around twenty machines in the Turku area in the future.
Quality pizza for every taste
The Fizza machine offers a wide selection of different pizzas, and special diets have also been considered in the selection. Customers have the opportunity to choose a gluten-free or vegan option, and especially the gluten-free pizza has received positive feedback.
In the machine, pizzas are kept refrigerator-cold, from where they are moved to the pizza oven to be baked upon ordering.
– Our pre-baked pizzas are made right next to the Science Park in Itäharju. The pizzas are kept refrigerator-cold in the machine, and we strive to ensure that the machine always has a comprehensive selection for every taste, Vilkki adds.
Easy ordering with the Fizza app
You can order a pizza directly from the machine's screen, and ordering in advance is also possible using the Fizza app. App users can ensure that their desired pizza is available by checking the machine's inventory and reserving their preferred pizza option. When ordering via the app, the pizza is ready to be picked up from the machine for 7 hours.
– You can also check the machine's pizza stock from the app and reserve the pizza you want. Especially regarding special diets, this is a popular feature, allowing customers to ensure their desired pizza is available.
When reserving via the app, you also get a code with every pizza, which makes every tenth pizza free.
