The office building InfraCity B, developed by Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt, was completed on schedule at the end of December. Rejlers and Nordic Semiconductor will be moving into the property.
InfraCity B, completed at Teollisuuskatu 40 in Itäharju, is the counterpart to InfraCity A, completed in 2021, where Turku Energia operates. With the approximately 4,000-square-meter InfraCity B, the buildings become a new landmark for the Turku Science Park expanding into Itäharju. The complex was designed by Sigge Arkkitehdit. InfraCity A and B share a courtyard, lobby, parking garage, and lunch restaurant.
– It is wonderful to have InfraCity completed in its entirety. The project is now as Sigge Arkkitehdit intended it to be: a cohesive entity formed by a pair of buildings, says Miika Tuominen, Construction Manager at Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt.
Construction of InfraCity began in the summer of 2022. The main contractor for the project was Rakennustoimisto Lundén, and project supervision was provided by Rakennuttajatoimisto HTJ and Granlund. The structures were designed by Sweco Finland Oy. The building's demanding building services were designed by Rejlers Finland Oy, and the implementation was carried out by Calto Oy, AM-Sähkö Oy, and Proautomaatio Oy.
– The project was handed over to us ahead of schedule and with zero defects. I am very satisfied with the quality delivered by Lundén. The project is a success down to the last detail, and I believe the future users of the building will also be pleased with the new facilities.
“The project was handed over to us ahead of schedule and with zero defects.”
InfraCity was executed in accordance with the Platinum level of the fourth version of the LEED environmental certificate. Platinum is the highest level of the American LEED environmental certification system. The requirements of the certificate were considered, among other things, in energy solutions and by using sustainable building materials. InfraCity also features a focus on presence sensors and automatic lighting control. Additionally, demand response for electricity is in use, meaning the property can reduce its energy consumption during peak usage hours.
The Itäharju area is developing rapidly. Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt is currently building the GeneCity pharmaceutical plant for Biovian next to InfraCity, and construction of AkvaCity for Turun Vesihuolto will begin in the spring at Teollisuuskatu 46. In addition, major zoning development projects are underway in the area.
– InfraCity acts as a spearhead that concretely demonstrates how an old industrial area transforms into a district of the future, where living, services, and workplaces intertwine in a new way, Tuominen concludes.
